As the Main Construction Manager (MCM) for the Giant Mine Remediation Project (GMRP), Parsons is committed to maximizing the hiring of local and northern workers throughout all phases of the Project. Parsons’ objective is to create meaningful employment opportunities for residents of the Northwest Territories, with a particular focus on Indigenous and local communities affected by the Project. This commitment will be advanced through open, fair, and transparent procurement and hiring practices that support Comprehensive Land Claims Agreement (CLCA) obligations and align with the Government of Canada’s procurement objectives related to Indigenous participation and northern economic development.

While Parsons conducts limited direct hiring for the Project, the majority of employment opportunities are provided through our subcontractors and service providers supporting the work at Giant Mine. What is a typical work day at Giant Mine?
        Most work days with subcontractors starts at 7:00AM with a morning tool box safety meeting before starting with daily tasks.  Work day can be complete after 8-10 hours depending on the work taking place and what subcontractors set as their daily schedule.  Most work at site takes place seasonally between April and end of November, weather dependent.
Do I need previous mine experience to work at Giant Mine?
Many of the opportunities at Giant Mine do not require any previous mining experience, however, depending on the opportunity previous or relevant experience or training may be required beforehand.

Safety is the most important job at Giant Mine, and it is everyone’s responsibility. Before any company, or individual, begins work at Giant Mine, they must successfully complete strict training, and adhere to strong regulations regarding the safety of all personnel, and the environment. Nonetheless, all activities at work or at home, have some element of risk to them, so it is our collective responsibility to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable work environment, and goes home safely each day.

The compensation for work performed at Giant Mine varies depending on the task performed, skill level, experience, and other factors. Each Subcontractor at Giant Mine will have their own pay structures and positions depending on the work they are doing.
